This area was once known as Clam Point, filled with Greek Revival homes and the residence of many well-to-do commuters. Franklin King of E.F. King and Company, wholesale druggists, used to live next door to this little parcel of land now known as Byrne Playground. His home was later converted to the Massachusetts Homeopathic Hospital, and over time the area's historic housing has suffered over time from alterations or have disappeared without a trace.

Some folks do a decent business selling street food on Columbia Road in the summers, selling plates from a few card tables and cars. Rumor has it that this is very good 'island barbecue'. This occurs in front of Ceylon Park by the baseball diamonds, just after Ceylon Street.

Corbett Park is located on a steeply sloped site in the middle of a "super block" where an old DPW stairway connected two neighborhoods. While the community wanted new park improvements, relocation of the dangerous stairway to a more visible location was a priority. The old stair tucked along the edge of the site and hidden by trees was demolished and the park was redesigned around a new grand stairway punctuated by terraces. A small plaza off the busy street at the top of the site called Mothers Rest is oriented to the spectacular views of Dorchester Bay. Other features include an amphitheater tucked into the upper slope and play structures at the lower, flatter end of the park. These spaces are all accessible from the adjacent sidewalks. To reduce erosion and minimize maintenance, the steep slope is planted with wildflower meadow species.

The Crawford Street Playground is 2.64 acres and features a little league field that doubles as a football field and soccer field for local children. The playground has five points of access, several of which lead through attractive wooded areas. One entrance is from the Ellis School and the Museum of the National Center of Afro-American Artists. Community members from various areas can easily access the playground, and often use the playground as a cut-through. The park is clean and generally in good condition.

Established in 1891. Having changed size over subsequent years, it remains a beautiful part of the community. Dorchester Park is one of Boston's hidden gems. In contrast to typical urban parks that are glorified grassy fields, Dorchester Park consists of paved walkways that wind through trees, brush, and rocks. The park also has a baseball field, tennis courts, a playground and swing sets. It is a great, safe, clean park that also is host to numerous events, including the Dorchester Easter Egg Hunt, Family Fun Day, and the Landmark Orchestra summer concert.

The Erie Ellington Street Playground is listed as 0.12 acres today and was listed as 0.23 acres in 1987. The playground includes colorful, modern play equipment, a circular track area for skating with trees in the center, several benches, and an open grassy area. There is a wrought-iron fence around the playground that is in excellent condition. This block of Erie Street is comprised almost entirely of open land between Glenwood and Ellington Streets. The playgrounds is the only formal use of the land in the entire surrounding area. One of the other lots is fenced with a white picket fence. Because the playground is in good condition, this area is used and appears to be valued by the community. The lots opposite the playground are also in good condition, with little trash.
